The Marginal Way Needs Your Support!
Due to the powerful forces of Mother Nature during recent storms along the coast of Maine, the Marginal Way sustained significant damage and hazardous erosion.
In this repair effort, we will be able to ensure that all existing damage is addressed and plan for the path’s future resiliency.
Storms along the Marginal Way caused significant damage to the beloved path with repairs estimated to cost $3 million. The Marginal Way Preservation Fund has committed significant resources to this endeavor.
Back-to-back storms in January of 2024 proved to be a reminder of the vulnerability of the beloved path. The direct exposure of the path to the impacts of Mother Nature caused significant structural damage along its foundation, prompting immediate action to ensure the safety and preservation of the beautiful landmark.
Our goal is not only to address the current damage but also to fortify the path against future challenges - and we need your help. The critical need for repairs along our beloved path is a great reminder of why the mission of our non-profit is so important and why it is crucial that we continue to grow our Endowment Fund.
Thanks to the swift collaboration of our community, the Town of Ogunquit, and Walsh Engineering, the path has been reopened to walkers and repair work has started along the path.
These challenges have underscored the importance of not only repairing the damage but also ensuring the longevity of the Marginal Way for generations to come. In an assessment from Walsh Engineering, 31 repair sites were identified with an estimated total cost of around $3 million. In response, the Marginal Way Preservation Fund proactively organized the Storm Damage Repair Appeal - all of which will support the significant financial burden of completing repairs required to safeguard the structural integrity of the path.
